What is

BRAIN EDUCATION?

Power Brain Education is an innovative educational programme designed to develop the full potential of the human brain. It is a contemporary combination of long established Eastern practices for energy development and mindfulness combined with new findings from neuroscience and education.

Distinctions of Power Brain Education include:

5 Steps of Brain Education

The reason we can retrain our brain is because the brain’s neuronal networks are changeable according to our experiences, perceptions, thoughts and emotions.

Neuroplasticity is the human brain’s capacity for change in response to our experiences and activities. The fact that we can change our brain is perhaps the most useful and optimistic bit of information any of us can have. Here are the steps that BE proposes to retrain your brain to make it more creative, peaceful, and productive:

 

Step 1: Brain Sensitizing

We use physical exercises (such as yoga, martial arts, HSP dance, isometric breathing postures and games) to improve blood circulation and awaken the body-brain senses. With enhanced sensory awareness and mindfulness training, we begin to improve our physical health and focus.

 

Step 2: Brain Versatilizing

We engage in fun and challenging mental fitness exercises and various non-symmetrical kinesthetic activities.
Based on the neuroscience research on neuroplasticity, these activities help our brain to become more flexible, adaptable and resilient. New synapses (connections between brain cells) are created as students connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain through these coordination exercises.

 

Step 3: Brain Refreshing

We release negative emotions and memories through HSP breathing and relaxation, confidence-building and stress management exercises. As we free ourselves from anxiety and stress, we return to the “zero point” of emotional balance where we can practice proactively creating a more positive attitude while choosing beneficial behaviors.

 

Step 4: Brain Integrating

Through Brain Wave Vibration, visualization and guided imagery techniques, we learn to integrate the three main layers of the brain (neo-cortex, limbic system and brain stem) while improving communication and cooperative interaction between the brain’s left and right hemispheres. Students learn to set meaningful and ambitious goals that require and inspire them to align their thoughts, emotions and actions.

 

Step 5: Brain Mastering

We practice implementing BE principles and exercises into our daily lives. Through consistent training, we realize our power of choice which leads to improved executive control and life mastery. Peer teaching, mentoring and student-led community projects typify this step.

Ilchi Lee, the creator of the Brain Education method used by Power Brain Education, has a special connection to children who struggle to learn since he, too, was once one of these children. In spite of being born as a son of an educator, he found it very difficult to focus and to learn in school, and his early years were filled with anxiety and self-doubt as a result.

There was a silver lining on that cloud, however. Because he suffered so much as a youngster, he was driven to ask himself, very early in life, “Who am I? And what is the meaning of my life?” His determination to find satisfactory answers to those questions led eventually to the creation of Brain Education philosophies and methods.

The basic message that Lee wishes to spread is simple: Everyone has a good brain, if only they can learn how to use it. To help people with this task, he created the five-step Brain Education method, which can be used by people of any age to get the most out of their brains and to become whatever they want to become in life. Power Brain Education is one of the many programs inspired by his work.

As the originator of the Brain Education method, Lee remains the ultimate example of a Power Brain in action. Starting with just one student in a park many decades ago, he has grown the movement to include instructors and students from all over the world. He is also a New York Times bestselling author who has written more than 40 books, including The Power Brain: Five Steps to Upgrading Your Brain Operating System.

Brain Education has been adapted to help people of all ages from all walks of life, from kids in schools to elders in nursing homes. Innovative programs have been created based on Brain Education that are redefining modern education, breaking it out of old modes that leave too many children behind. One example is the Benjamin School for Character Education, a unique gap-year program where high school students discover their passion and self-worth through Brain Education.

He also created the non-profit organization, the International Brain Education Association (IBREA) to raise awareness of the great value of the human brain and unleash its capacity to create a world we all wish to see. IBREA has Special Consultative Status with the UN ECOSOC.Through IBREA’s global work, 10% of El Salvador’s public schools are replicating the Brain Education school program.

Due to its success and adaptability, Brain Education is now even being studied as an academic discipline in Korea, and a research institute and graduate university have been established for researching, teaching, and disseminating the method.
